I acquired twelve desktop computers (6 PC’s and 6 iMacs) as part of the STEAM After School Program. The iMacs were acquired for the Garage Band software. I taught guitar as part of the “A” in STEAM. Developing music tracks part by part supports computational thinking by breaking a musical idea down into its individual parts and sections. Writing repeated musical parts (drum tracks, bass lines, vocal background parts) utilizes algorithms when programming.
The PC’s became part of the first ever-growing middle school eSports Program. eSports is a program which supports collaboration, problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, and communication. And, GAMING!!
Computer Aided Design (CAD) was another first for all of my students. Here we see students working in Tinkercad. The use of the design process (Empathize, Define, Ideate, prototype, test) was used when students designing in Tinkercad.
